The creators of Squid Game have teased what’s to come in Season 3, set to release in June. There is particular excitement surrounding the introduction of Cheolsu, the robot who will join Younghee, the beloved robot from Season 1.
Director Choi Kyung-seon shared, "A new game arena that surpasses Season 2 will unfold," and spoke about Cheolsu, saying, "We had sketched Cheolsu during Season 1. Younghee was inspired by illustrations from elementary school textbooks, and Cheolsu appeared alongside her. We reimagined Cheolsu, and later collaborated with the special effects team to bring him to life. Think of him as Younghee’s companion."
Director Kim Ji-yong emphasized, "'Squid Game' presents an extreme narrative that seems impossible, but there are moments that resonate with viewers. There will be many such moments in Season 3." He also addressed possible dissatisfaction with the conclusion of Season 2, assuring that "everything will be resolved."
Music director Jeong Jae-il, still working on the music for Squid Game 3, said, "Next week, I will meet with director Hwang Dong-hyuk, and I’m a bit nervous." He continued, "Since the story will be concluding, the emotions will escalate, and while it may not be called moving, I’m paying careful attention to make sure the audience feels it."
Riding high on the global success of Squid Game Season 2, the production team is expanding internationally. Director Kim Ji-yong is set to fly to Ireland on the 18th for the filming of Victorian Psycho, directed by Zachary Wigan, starring Margaret Qualley of Substance.
Choi Kyung-seon has also been nominated for the 29th Art Directors Guild Awards in the category of "One-Hour Contemporary Single-Camera Series." He previously won the same category in 2022 for Squid Game. Regarding his next project, Choi stated, "I’m planning to work with Netflix, but that’s all I can share for now."
