Olivia Marsh, the older sister of NewJeans' Danielle, shared the story behind her debut in the music industry.
On January 16, Olivia Marsh appeared as a guest on MBC FM4U's "Midday Hope Song Kim Shin-young" (also known as "Jeonghui").
During the show, Olivia revealed that before her debut, she had been working and also engaged in songwriting and composing. Her previous job was related to music, as she worked in a company focused on creating short-form content. Olivia explained, "I was part of the music team at a company that creates short-form content. I worked on top-line creation and sound design."
When asked whether she had originally dreamed of becoming a singer, songwriter, or composer, Olivia shared, "I honestly went back and forth on this a lot when I was young. I’ve always liked art. In fact, I majored in music for film during university because I really wanted to create music for movies."
Olivia continued, saying that she began working as a songwriter and composer when her colleagues were freelancing for K-pop projects. She said, "I worked on one project, and it was so much fun that I wanted to keep doing it."
When asked whether she had been offered many opportunities to debut as a singer, Olivia humbly denied it. She explained, "I was enjoying my work as a composer, but it was by chance that I met the CEO, who passionately shared his ideas and persuaded me to debut."
Olivia Marsh, born in 2000, is the older sister of NewJeans' Danielle. She debuted as a solo singer-songwriter on October 16, 2022, with the single "42." She released a winter season song, "First December with You," on December 2 of the previous year.
