Park Won-sook couldn’t hide her bittersweet feelings as she recalled her house that went to auction.

The January 16th episode of KBS 2TV's Park Won-sook’s Let’s Live Together featured famous Chinese cuisine chef Shin Gye-sook and defector chef Lee Soon-sil.

As soon as Shin Gye-sook met Park Won-sook, she said, “It’s been about 30 or 40 years since I last saw you. I was a little student who followed Teacher Lee Hyang-bang to KBS’s Home Cooking program.” Park Won-sook replied with a smile, “No wonder your face seemed familiar on the show. I must have seen you before.”

Hye-eun, who is a fan of Shin Gye-sook’s programs, shared, “I felt sad when the season ended. You hosted so well, and I became a fan after watching the show.” Shin Gye-sook responded, “I owe a lot to you. My destiny changed because of you. When I was in my third year of middle school, our class homeroom teacher was ‘Third Han River Bridge,’ so I decided to study Chinese at Dankook University, which was the closest university to the bridge, and started learning cooking.” She shared her cheerful story.

Park Won-sook expressed her pride, saying, “I knew you as a successful culinary researcher, but it’s so heartwarming to see that the little student I knew has grown up so wonderfully.”

Shin Gye-sook confessed, “You might not remember, but I’ve had something in my heart for almost 40 years. I’ve wanted to thank you for everything you did for me.” She explained a past event, “When Teacher Lee Hyang-bang opened a cooking school, I worked as a teaching assistant. I wanted to help the school become well-known, so I made promotional flyers. I included a photo of you and Teacher Lee Hyang-bang in the flyer. Someone said, ‘Did you get Park Won-sook’s permission? If not, it could be an infringement of portrait rights.’ But I had already distributed the flyers.”

She continued, “I called you to explain, saying, ‘I didn’t know, I’m so sorry. What should I do now?’ and you kindly said it was okay. Later, you even asked me to cater for a private event, and I went as a chef.”

Park Won-sook, not recalling the incident, expressed confusion, but Shin Gye-sook clarified, “It was at your house in Poi-dong (now Gaepo-dong).” Upon hearing this, Park Won-sook’s expression turned somber as she replied, “That house went to auction. It was a house with a yard.”

Shin Gye-sook, deeply grateful, added, “That’s why I’ve wanted to see you again for all these years. I feel like I can finally let go of the regret.” Park Won-sook responded with a warm smile, “I’m so glad you’ve succeeded. You don’t need to thank me. I’m really touched.”

The touching reunion of the two culinary figures was a heartwarming moment on the show, illustrating the deep bonds of gratitude and admiration formed over decades.
